It’s that time of year! We’re dishing out our top books of 2014.
We weren’t able to read everything we wanted, but we certainly read some brilliant things!
This covers the books we read this year, regardless of their publication date.
Ang's Top Five
5: Always by Kindle Alexander– Oh man. This book. This book gutted me. It’s the story of a m/m romance spanning 40 years. It was beautifully written, and I felt every single emotion. Kane and Avery will always be some of my favorites. They were so damn good for each other. I loved seeing them live a full beautiful life and grow old together. We don’t get that very often in contemporary romances. The sex scenes were really something too. I loved this book! Damn. I just realized I need to write an official review!
4: Splinters by Thorny Sterling– This book blew me away! I was in the mood for a good m/m and this book really stood out from the crowd. So many of the m/m books I read are filled with macho guys, but this book spoke to me on a whole new level thanks to Al. He was so sexy and sweet. I love that Thorny introduced us to a deliciously gender fluid character. His romance with his hot cowboy, Duke, was perfection. My full review is here.
3: The Frenched Series by Melanie Harlow– I am in love with this series. It’s so fun and fresh and sexy! These books just make me feel good. I love the humor, the characters, and the close female friendships. Mel really makes each character shine. You need to read these books! My reviews are here and here.
2: The Eden Series by Kele Moon– These books are m/m and m/f/m BDSM/erotica. They tell a beautiful story of love, trust, and friendship. The love story is so real, so raw, and so beautiful it made me feel anxious and elated each time the characters were together. And oh my god. The sex scenes are so fucking hot. You’ll need cold showers after reading about my favorite Dom hero ever in the history of books, Danny Carlow. You need to meet him. My full review is here.
1: Last Light by M. Pierce– What can I say? An all-time favorite. M did not disappoint with the follow up to Night Owl. I somehow loved it even more. I loved getting to know the characters better and watching their relationship grow. The sex was hotter, the relationship was more intense, and there was more Nate! My most anticipated and favorite read of the year. My full review is here.
Candi's Top Five
5: The Record Series by K.A. Linde– This series was suggested to me by a very trustworthy fellow blogger, Nina from The Literary Gossip. HOLY EFFEN HOTNESS!! K.A. Linde does triangles and angst like no other!! The Queen of angst!! I have read many of her books and she is truly one of my favorite authors. This series is about politics, sexy sex, and sneakiness. A MUST READ!! Do your civic duty and buy this series. Congressman Brady Maxwell will melt your panties right off!! Full reviews are here and here.
4: The Fixed On You Series by Laurelin Paige– HOLY EFFEN HUSDON!!! That basically sums up this series. Lol, joking. Kinda. I read the first book in this series and I immediately was hooked!!! I couldn’t get enough. Hudson is just perfect. And sexy. And bossy. And sexy. And this book needs to come with a too hot to handle warning!! Just trust me…READ THIS SERIES!!! Reviews are here and here.
3: Bright Side by Kim Holden– Ahhh!! Where do I even began with this book? This. Book. Gutted. Me. Ripped me apart and put me back a better person. Not going to lie, this is an extremely emotional book. But, it’s one I feel everyone needs to read. I’m sure everyone can relate to the story in their own way. It was quite therapeutic for me. It should have a disclaimer though “may need to take the day off from life after finishing it!” Here is my review.
2: Unteachable by Leah Raeder– There aren’t enough words to describe how much I loved this book. Leah’s writing, beautiful. Poetic. She has a way of making you feel like you just become a part of this story. And what a hot and steamy roller coaster of a story it is!! This book came out in 2013, but I read it back in June. Literally everyone I knew kept saying “READ THIS BOOK!!” And I’m so glad I did!! My full review is here.
1: Last Light by M. Pierce– If you have not read this book, or Night Owl, THEN YOU NEED TO NOW! This book. This series. Amazing. Filled with hotness, kink, emotion, sadness, hope, despair, forgiveness and a whole lotta panty melting dirty talk. M. Pierce has a way with words like no other. Always leaving you wanting more. And more. And more. Here’s my review.
Paula's Top Three
I’m sad to say this has been an uninspiring year for me; I gave out very few 5 star ratings this year. I know there are lots of great books out there right now and I hope to get to them in the new year. So, unfortunately I don’t have a top 5… I have a top 3.
1: Last Light by M. Pierce– This was my most anticipated read this year, and it blew me away. M. Pierce knows what I like apparently–flawless writing, depth, hot sex, and just the right amount of angst. And trickery. Obviously I must like that because my top three involve it. This book made me feel everything–I didn’t just read it, I lived it. And that’s why it occupies my number 1 spot. My full review is here.
Tarah's Top Five
I had the opposite problem of Paula. This was so very hard for me to narrow down to only five. So hard.
5: Bright Side by Kim Holden– Bright Side is one of those special books that sticks to your soul. I didn’t just cry reading this book, I bawled my eyes out. Ultimately, this is a book about love. About life. About how you shouldn’t have one without the other. This isn’t a love story. It’s a story about love. There’s a difference and once you read this story, you’ll know what I mean. My full review is here.
4: Black Lies by Alessandra Torre– Alessandra Torre has yet to write a book that I didn’t love, but Black Lies has become my favorite of her works. This book is so different from what I’ve read. The twist and turns didn’t ring familiar. The characters were fresh. If you think this book is simply about a woman having to choose between two men, you could not be more wrong. This book is much, much more. I’m still having the feels from reading it. My full review and proposal to Alessandra is here.
3: The Boss Series by Abigail Barnette– I seriously need to write a review for this series. I want to read them all over again. The details in The Boss series are spectacular. This sexy read full of intriguing characters has obviously made an impression on me. I couldn’t stop reading and devoured each book. I’ll work on that review. I may do a re-read first though. Haha. Read these, guise.
2: The Sea of Tranquility by Katia Millay– A trusted friend told me to read this book. I could not be more grateful that I listened. This is one of those books that you have to read. If I was Oprah, I would be like, “And you get a copy! And you get a copy!” But I’m not. Bummer, right?
This book, hands down, has the best ending I’ve ever read. Please read it.
1: Last Light by M. Pierce– After Night Owl, I was anxiously awaiting this book. The sophomore in a series can often be a disappointment when the first book is so bloody well done. M. Pierce didn’t have this issue. M went in the opposite direction and somehow Last Light got better. I am constantly astounded by the brilliant writing that M gives us. The plot and characters of this series are unlike any other. For me, there has yet to be a more perfect book in this genre. My full review can be found here.
Did you notice we each had only one book in common and it just happened to be the number one spot for all of us? Last Light is Dirty Laundry Review’s book of the year. Haven’t read this series? We can’t let that be. Scroll down for a giveaway of signed Night Owl and Last Light paperbacks!
Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead …
Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret …
Tensions rise, secrets grow bigger, and passions run deeper in the highly anticipated second book in the Night Owl Trilogy.
