Skylar Nixon is a twenty-seven year old failed actress with no Plan B. After a humiliating stint on a reality TV show crushes what’s left of her childhood dream, she finds herself back in her hometown with no money saved, no college degree, and no confidence she’s anything but a joke—a small town starlet who couldn’t hack it in the big city.

When she runs into former classmate Sebastian Pryce, she can’t believe the hot body and chiseled jaw belong to the shy, troubled loner she knew ten years before. He’s not exactly friendly at first, and she’s heard the rumors about his tragic past, but something in his sad eyes intrigues her. She only wants to get to know him better.

Until the night she wants more—and takes it. (Hard and deep. Twice.)

Are they just two lonely people seeking solace? Or can a disgraced beauty queen and flawed, frustrated man find some sort of happy ever after?

**SOME SORT OF HAPPY is a full-length, dual POV novel, complete with a happy ending.**

Paula Dawn's Review

This is the type of character and story I crave. I had the honor of reading this early and I was so excited because I love Melanie Harlow’s writing. But, this review took me for-ev-er to write because I had the hardest time finding words that would encompass all the love I felt for this book and the characters. I still haven’t found them.

We all fall in love with our book characters to some degree when we are reading, don’t we? But there are different levels of love for me. Let me show you…

Level 3 is very exclusive. There are now five members. Yes, five. I told you it was exclusive. Welcome, Sebastian.

Some Sort of Happy was classic Melanie Harlow: sexy, witty, and flawlessly written but she threw in a twist with a character that is outside the “norm.”

I was utterly floored by Sebastian and the story that was about to unfold. I was not expecting the words that were on the page. I was into this book hook line and sinker after I met him. He needed me!

Okay, I’ll stop talking about Sebastian because there’s another character just as important to the story. Skylar is a former beauty queen who made some bad choices and was cast as the “villain” on a reality dating show. Things didn’t go quite as she planned and she has to return home and do a lot of explaining. As women, I think most of us have felt her insecurity and what drove her to make the choices she did. The clock is always ticking for us, isn’t it?

Skylar feels like she’s failed and is the disappointment compared to her sisters who seem like they are right on schedule with life goals. Well, looks can be deceiving. Scratch below the surface and Skylar is more than just a pretty face and she has to discover this.

She has a run in with Sebastian, her former classmate, and this is when I was immediately hit with the love stick. Sebastian was a nerd/outcast. He has a real life struggle that has affected him his whole life. Oh. My. God. The feels were so strong. I WAS IN LOVE INSTANTLY. Only a handful of characters have brought out the protective/love/lust instinct in me and Sebastian did that. Anyone who flips up your skirt on a dock and gets busy is a-ok in my book. But write a beautiful poem? You are on a pedestal. Doubt/insecurity/sweet/sexy? I’m pretty much building a shrine to you.

These two get reacquainted and Skyler reveals herself to be caring, funny, and just what Sebastian needs in his life. She accepts him but will he let her accept him? Will she get tired of being pushed away? I was salivating waiting for these two to get it on. Melanie Harlow writes some of the hottest sex scenes and she didn’t disappoint at all with Some Sort of Happy. I love when the character does something you aren’t expecting. Sebastian had some kink!

You know what the best part of this story was? There was no magic writer’s wand waved and everything was instantly fixed. Sebastian’s struggle is real (let that sink in) and was written in a way that my heart literally hurt for him. No one should be made an outcast because their brain is wired differently. Stories like this hit me hard because this is really life for some people. I would think about him and want to cry. And when an author treats it with respect and honesty and still manages to weave in humor, hope, and a love story, well, that author gets my Level 3 love too.

Sebastian became a part of my heart. And so did Skylar.

Because two is better than one.

This book was just perfect in my eyes. The writing, their journey, and sweet Jesus, that epilogue brought me to tears. I hope you all love Sebastian and Some Sort of Happy as much as I did. Because… well… you’re dead to me if you don’t.

Just kidding.
Just kidding.

Tarah's Review

Melanie’s consistent writing always captures me. Her writing style just holds my attention time and time again. Every single book of hers (and I’ve read them all) impresses me and squeezes my heart.

I must admit I had a rocky start with this one, though. I hate that I struggle with explaining why. Usually Mel’s writing grabs me from the start and my passion is instant. My passion with Some Sort of Happy had to grow. But it did! It grew a lot. Once the story kept going and I got a better sense for Skylar, I was able to delve into it wholeheartedly.

Melanie rocked my world when she made Sebastian. This guy made this book for me. Hands down. Sebastian is why I couldn’t stop reading. He is one-of-a-kind and a genuine pleasure to read. You will want to hug him, be his best friend, and let him rock your world all in one book. You will feel Sebastian head to toe and as deep as your soul. It’s delicious and endearing.

His comforter, his confidante, or his lover? Well, he finds all three in one woman. Both Skylar and Sebastian I find to be a breath of fresh air. I haven’t read them before. The talent in this book shines bright through these characters. This story about them is another all star from the lovely Melanie that you shouldn’t miss.

BLOWN. AWAY. This is my first thought. UNEXPECTED. That is my second thought. And then, there’s…OMFG THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER I JUST WANT TO HOLD AND HUG AND KISS SEBASTIAN 8 TIMES AND I NEVER WANT TO LET HIM GO. Phew. Those are just some of my thoughts. What it boils down to is this. Melanie Harlow can write. She writes her fucking ass off. And we all know this. But then, she delivers SSOH, and it’s like WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?!?! Because what she gives us, is a story that ripped my heart out. It had me crying, smiling, laughing out loud, swooning. Oh yes people. SWOONING HARD. Stroking, rope, and car sex. OH MY!! I was shocked. And awed. By her MC, Sebastian Pryce. How Melanie can create such a character, has me floored. How she brings together the seriousness and matches it with the hotness. And add in Mel’s signature humor. What you get is perfection. I’m not going to delve too much into the story. Because I don’t want to rob you of the not knowing, in case you don’t know. Because if I say one thing, it might give away another thing. But I will totally fangirl as to why I loved it!! Let’s start with Sebastion. He’s not your typical BBF. He’s complex, misunderstood, and has some serious issues. My heart broke for him over and over. And he also made it pound hard. Not just for the way he loved and cared for Skylar. But for the man he was. His strength. His courage. His struggles. He’s not an easy man to love. But the words and thoughts that poured out of him!! God!! Let me share a few of my favorites. I think I might of highlighted this whole damn book lol! I loved her, and she loved me. Now it was my responsibility to keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe. keep her safe.

And this: “From the moment I saw you again, I knew you could undo me. I knew I should stay away from you, but I couldn’t. I can’t. The only thing I can do is make you mine.”

And good god this: The knowledge of her body, of her mind, intoxicated me. I know what makes her come.

And this was my undoing: I’ll die a little, but I’ll understand.

See what I mean!! One of Sebastian’s sayings was “Two is better than one” this is something that stuck with me throughout the whole book. And even after. So let’s move on to Miss Skylar Nixon. When I think of Skylar, I laugh. She’s this ball of energy. Who loves to talk and pry. Some might find this not appealing, but as Sebastian found it adorable, so did I. She’s always been “the pretty one” out of her sisters. So after some life wake up calls, she’s forced to come to terms about some things and has some growing up to do. She needs to make some life decisions. And who better to help her?? Why yes, Sebastian!! She is the perfect girl for him. She stands up to him and calls him out. She’s not a quitter and she believes that he is worth the fight. She’s so patient and understanding. God. They are perfect. They are what each other needs. He builds up her confidence when she needs it most. They help each other and they grow together.

And those are some of my thoughts. Now I will enter total fangirl mode. BUY. THIS. BOOK. Read it. Love it. Gush about it. Because I firmly believe that this is THAT book. The book people are going to be talking about. They are going to be shocked. This is different than anything Melanie has ever written. But yet it still holds true to all the great qualities that are of Ms. Harlow’s writing. It’s still filled with all those hot and amazing sexy times. It still has Melanie’s LOL humor. It still has the great side characters that Mel is known for creating. The ones that leave you wanting to know more and hope they get a story too. She has stepped out of her comfort box and took risks. And has given us a heartbreaking, beautiful, and powerful love story. A story that will stay with me probably for a lifetime. And that my friends, is why this is one of the best books I’ve ever had the honor of reading. Thank you Mel, for taking a risk and for bringing Sebastian and Skylar into our lives.

If you haven’t 1-clicked this yet, trust me, do it now!

Ang's Review

Melanie Harlow never disappoints. She’s a consistent writer that somehow manages to get better with each book. Her storytelling and writing continue to grow, and I’m always left wondering how she can possibly top this book. Full disclosure, I’m proud to be an earlier reader of Mel’s stories.

Some Sort of Happy was different than what I was expecting. It had the usual Harlow hallmarks of a smart, strong, funny heroine, and a sexy, kind, you-want-to-keep-him-for-your-own hero but it was so much more than a typical romance. Let’s meet the players.

Skylar Nixon is a former Cherry Queen small town star that ventured off to NYC to live out her dreams of becoming an actress. However, her dreams didn’t really take off like she’d hoped so now she’s back to her roots in her small hometown in Michigan. I effing loved Skylar. She’s this beautiful woman who has had things handed to her thanks to her good looks and charm but as her mother sagely informed her, she’s not a special snowflake! She needs to get her shit together and make things happen for herself. I loved this bit. It takes a lot for a person to realize they’ve been gliding through life and need to finally make things happen for themselves. I’ve met plenty of people like this in real life and it was so good to see her come into her own. She’s a genuinely good person with a huge heart and she’s extremely brave. I was proud of her achievements and the strides she made in her career. Not to mention the strides she made in her love life and the capacity of love she has for Sebastian.

Oh Sebastian. Sebastian Pryce is a complicated man with certain issues that have been a detriment to him living a fulfilling life. Like Skylar, he escaped their small town and ventured off to NYC where he worked as an attorney. The crazy lifestyle didn’t appeal to him and he’s returned home in an effort to simplify his life and get back to his roots. He’s convinced he’s better off alone and doesn’t need anyone until he runs into Skylar, who was the object of all his dirty high school fantasies. What happens when you reconnect with someone you crushed on and admired for so long? Skylar was part of that mythical “cool crowd” in high school and Sebastian was an outcast due to his issues. However, he remembers Skylar was always kind to him. Sebastian has this beautiful poetic soul that just moves you yet he can be dominant and tough. Melanie said it herself. He is perfection. There is something so tender and unique about this character that I, like Skylar, wanted to protect him for all the bad things. He’s flawed and sexy and stubborn and brilliant and loving and slightly dangerous. He’s the ultimate character that you want to fix and make better.

When these two finally come together it is highly erotic and left-hand worthy, you guys. Seriously. This book left me panting and wanting a front row seat to the action. Only Melanie Harlow has the ability to get me so turned on yet laughing in the same paragraph. Those heights are hard to achieve, Mel. Just like that enigmatic Spot!

All in all, this is an A+ to a brilliant author and storyteller. Some Sort of Happy has all the things you want along with a lot of things you didn’t even realize you needed. It’s thought provoking, engaging, smart, sexy, and beautiful. This isn’t a light fluffy read. This story tackles real life issues and doesn’t sugar coat the bad things. Throughout it all you will be cheering Sebastian and Skylar on and fist pumping when things go their way. Go give this a one-click now! You’ll be a real kind of happy that you did so.
